Turn Your Knack for Creating Writing into a Lucrative Career You Can Do From Anywhere in the World

You’re creative but you’ve never turned it into a bonafide career.
Like, what is this page? Is this a sign? Who are you? Are you spying on me? How did you know I always secretly dreamed of being a writer with a pen name like “Lucy Blue” but haven’t yet gotten up the nerve to pursue it? (Thanks, Uncle Bill, for convincing me when I was nineteen that a business degree would be more practical.)

You’re yearning for a career change—scary as it is—but you haven’t been sure what or how.
You feel jaded, unfulfilled, and creatively uninspired by the work you’re doing at present. The most exciting part of your day is currently playing the game called “who can take the trash out without running into the neighbors???”

You’re employed as a writer now—perhaps in the communications department for a company called “Dan’s Solutions, Inc.”
but you’ve felt stagnant and stuck for some time now, as you gather up the gumption to write just one more vinegar-scented press release.

You’re a self-employed copywriter who’s trying to exit left from the whole “bro-marketey” scene.
You aren’t as excited about writing some dude named Cliff’s 50th variation of a landing page as you thought you’d be. Your heart’s just not into it, it’s a little more technical than you prefer, and sometimes the whole industry feels ick.

No prior experience necessary

You’ve been thinking about going freelance OR you’re currently a freelance writer who writes articles for magazines and publications.
But even at a rate of $1.00 a word, which is even rare to find these days, you’re constantly scrambling around to find your next gig. It’s exhausting, and you’re pitching yourself more than you’re writing.

You studied creative writing or English lit.
But, you’ve never been able to apply it in the real world. The only jobs you seem to qualify for are English teachers and administrative assistants, or the self-published Kindle author of a $1.99 book titled Mr. Periwinkle’s New Sock Selection. (No shame!)

Life took you in a different direction, but now you’re embarking on a grand self-reinvention.
This is version 2.0 of your life—or maybe 7.0!—and you’re done with putting other people first. You’re excited about exploring your creative side, once and for all, but you’re also not interested in becoming a starving artist either. #mustaffordgoodwine

You’re specifically looking for mentorship and guidance on how to jumpstart a professional creative writing career from scratch.
Even if you don’t have a portfolio yet, and even if you’re a beginner, and even if you aren’t 100% sure of selling yourself. That’s what we’re here for.

You’re a naturally good writer—you should just SEE the kinds of birthday messages you send—but you wouldn’t know how to get paid for it, exactly.

Does anyone really want to cough up money to have you write the top ten ways to terrorize your husband while he’s working from home? (Answer: YES.) (Also, please write us and tell us your favorite.)

Instead, you’ve found yourself in creative writer purgatory. Please select all that apply. ⬇️

“Creativity is a top ten career skill you’ll need in the next ten years.”

Forbes (And Also the Entire Internet)

Creative writing is quickly becoming one of most in-demand skills in the world. That’s because a major shift has taken place:

  1. First was the shift to content-driven marketing (what business do you know that doesn’t need content?)

  2. Second was the shift to remote work, meaning that written async communications are more important than ever: to sell, to connect, to continue having a place in the world, even if you aren’t in person.

As we enter a digital-first world, brands and businesses need to find original ways to stand out from the crowd, capture attention, and create irrational desire. Except most brands and businesses are still woefully behind in this department: they’re either producing content that’s stiff, flat, and unengaging, or they’re hardly able to keep up with their content production at all.

This is a massive opportunity.

Brands are aware that they need to upgrade their communications in order to attract modern consumers, but oftentimes it can be difficult for them to reach this particular pool of talent.

Our company regularly gets asked for referrals for talented creative writers, along with the commentary of, “I just don’t know how to find someone good!” Marketplaces like Upwork and Fiverr are often viewed with a skeptical eye full of generic, low-cal writers, and furthermore, it’s common for freelance writers to excel in one area, such as SEO or conversion copy, but be lacking the necessary creativity for this new type of content: creative content that is persuasive simply by way of being interesting, funny, original, and addictive.

Businesses need A LOT of killer writing:

  • Website content that draws people in

  • A newsletter that people actually want to open

  • A blog that helps bring all the gals to the yard

  • Tweets that demonstrate authority

  • LinkedIn content that positions them as a thought leader

  • A podcast—and the script for the podcast, including all of the ad placements

  • YouTube video scripts

  • Product launch video scripts

  • Online course video scripts, content, PDFs and workbooks

  • PR articles that get pitched to the media to showcase authority & credibility

  • Product descriptions that turn average products into ✨ iconic ✨

  • Lead magnet copy for downloadables and freebies

  • Ghostwritten book manuscripts for company leaders and influencers

  • Email pitches to partners, companies, affiliates, and other stakeholders

  • External communications, like job postings and customer service emails and scripts for staff

  • And the list goes on!

There’s an explosive opportunity for creative writers to earn a lucrative living helping these companies create the content they desperately need.

It’s not about poetry: it’s about persuasion.

Every sale in the world starts with attention.

Your Shiny New Job Title Comes Packaged With Bags of Cash, Zero Regret, and a Permanent Smirk of Creative Pride

In fact, a professional creative writer can demand rates like these:

  • $10,000+ to take an existing book manuscript and turn it into personality-filled, effervescent gold.

  • $25,000+ to ghostwrite the entire thing

  • $1K - $5K+ a month helping a business write all their smokin’ hot content: addictive newsletters, fun-filled product descriptions, clever social captions, irresistible ad campaigns (and maybe a really delightful apology letter to someone’s landlord)

There’s only one problem: these creative writing roles aren’t on the radar of most creative writers.

Most writers who have a knack for creative writing end up working as freelance writers, copywriters, corporate writers, or fiction writers which allow for creativity but oftentimes aren’t very lucrative.

Most of the general population isn’t even aware that opportunities like these exist, or that they would be (highly) qualified…and their talents welcome!

Furthermore, they don’t know how to get gigs like this.

They don’t know how to get clients. They don’t know how to approach companies. They don’t know how to charge money. They don’t know how to sell their services. They don’t know how to price their work. They don’t have a portfolio. They don’t know what the process is like, or how to present deliverables. They don’t know how to manage clients. They don’t know how to run a proper business. (That doesn’t get hunted and maimed by the IRS.)

On top of that fun-filled ice cream sundae, imposter syndrome also rears its head. Am I good enough? Am I talented enough? Am I confident enough? Can I really do what this client wants? Am I going to disappoint them? Am I going to HATE this?

This prevents seriously talented people from starting a seriously awesome career: one that can be done from anywhere, using only words, without having to spend years learning technical skills, such as coding or photography.

Creative writing is the future.

And yup: Creative Writing Career School is here to help you leap.

Here Are Seven Sneaky Tell-Tale Signs You Should Consider a Career as a Professional Creative Writer

  1. You think “I’m Glad My Mom Died” is a most excellent book title.

  2. You hail Cards Against Humanity as a deity.

  3. You covet witty tweets / people / packaging / that one candle company you saw online after a bourbon-fueled night in Kentucky.

  4. The word “synergistic” has never crossed your lips, nor will it, so help you every oath that ever mattered.

  5. You spend an unusually long amount of time writing witty email replies (the last line’s gotta count).

  6. You refuse to say things like “I’m sorry for your loss” on the grounds of a lack of originality.

  7. And would totally cry creepy little tears of joy if your job was to write product descriptions like this:

That last line is so good, you might even tattoo it to your thigh.

Introducing Meat & Hair’s Creative Writing Career School

It’s the only program of its kind to train students in the craft of professional creative writing and the business of creative writing with one goal:

Make this graduating class the highest-paid, most in-demand creative writers in the world.

There are 5 core components to the program:

  1. Creative Writing Skills: techniques to make your writing feel fresh, original, humorous, elevated, interesting, well-written, and fun to read. The cornerstone of what makes you stand out in the marketplace and get gobbled up by clients who want to borrow some of that charisma.

  2. Copywriting Skills: techniques to add elements of persuasion, make your writing feel irresistible, introduce urgency, drive action, and produce clicks and sales—all of which is necessary in a modern business setting (most writers are either creative writers lacking persuasion skills, or persuasive copywriters without much creativity—you’re going to get lessons in both).

  3. Modern Business Skills: techniques to help you learn how to run a professional creative writing business, from positioning yourself in the marketplace, to packaging your services, to pitching & pricing your work, to mock client call practice, to proposals and contracts, to executing on the deliverables, to managing client expectations and more.

  4. Project Assignments & Feedback: this is one of the most critical components of the program, as you will be expected to complete a number of projects during the course of the program, which you will then submit for instructor feedback on both your writing approach and your business approach, so we can make adjustments and learn in real-time.

  5. Real-World Practicum: an opportunity to work with real clients under the warm embrace of our loving supervision, so you can build your portfolio and have guidance and support as you get real-world experience and learn on the job.

When you graduate from the program, you’ll have confidence in your writing skills, gain real-world project experience, have a portfolio of work to show, know exactly how to get clients, charge top dollar for your work, and know how to run your new creative writing business like a sharpshooter pro.

Introducing The Creative Writing Career Program

Program Details

“Between this proposal and the last, I've made around $9000 in 2 months with just 2 clients. WOW!!! I've never had numbers like this in my business ever.” —Christina Marlett, Student

”Just scored an £11,000 project, which I'm sure I wouldn't have won without your proposal method. You’re a G and you’ve made my life wayyyy easier!” —Salma El-Wardany, Student

”I’ve increased my revenue by $80K from this time last year, and your method played a significant part. Just the other day I got a $10K writing contract by text—BOO-YAH!” —Shelly Davies, Student

We operate using a hands-on, project-based learning approach.

✅ Live classes

✅ Mock projects

✅ Training and discussion

✅ Feedback and review

You will be invited to live classes—or watch them later async—and then you will be assigned a select number of mock projects from the very beginning through which you will be challenged and prompted to make strategic decisions—for example, the client is requesting X, so how much do you charge?—followed by feedback and training on the best way to handle each scenario, and ultimately, be assigned a written deliverable as a take-home task with a project brief and a deadline, just like you would have in real life. This is where you’ll hone your creative writing and copywriting skills, practice different writing techniques, and submit your work for feedback and review. We will then use these assignments as teachable moments and real-time lessons, highlighting what’s working and what could be improved, before asking you to submit your final draft for your portfolio.

It’s fun. It’s interactive. It’s real. It’s writing. It’s business. And it’s your all-new career.

I almost threw up hitting the send button, but she already accepted my offer and is going to start working with me right away!” —Katey Shanahan, Student

”The first thing I’ve put into practice is a one-time-only, new-clients-only $500 editing deal. I got three actual, paying bites within 24 hours and my email recipients still have six days to respond!” —Kim Beach, Student

”I pitched myself to a potential client (one I would have pitched much lower) and GOT IT.” —Sarah Edwards, Student

”Last week I sent a proposal based on your method. Did a 15 minute video screenflow with me talking about my ideas, sharing examples and references. Word just came back and I GOT IT. 🙌” —Sandra Van Der Lee, Student

”Your course is by far the best money I've ever invested into my business ever (and I've taken my fair share of courses!)” —Hannah Whitehouse, Student

”I'm impressed because I'm not a total newbie, and in some ways I'm probably further along than your typical student. AND YET I'm learning an incredible amount and you're giving me some great ways to tweak what I'm already doing. Thanks a million. You're a rockstar.” —Katherine Pomerantz, Student

I had two client inquiries in my inbox. Sent the pricing sheet and my $500 offer email to both of them, and not 15 minutes later, I already have a client interested in one of the packages, plus a couple of my add-ons! YOU GUYS.” —Amanda O’Brien, Student

”I am looking to make the leap from my soul-crushing 8:30-5:30 desk job to the freelance life, and this is building my confidence in myself tremendously.” —Emily Lawson, Student

”Thank you for changing the way I think about sales. I have been freelancing for 8 years and have always felt like I've been pushed around by the tide instead of taking the reins myself. Part of that was because I didn't know HOW to take the reins, and part was because I didn't feel like I deserved them. Your insights have completely turned my world upside down and made me reimagine what I'm capable of!” —Lindsay Sánchez, Student

”You broke it down into the perfect-sized chunks to be able to absorb and execute each block. It has really given me a clear pathway to who I am and what I am selling. Your work is an amazing value for all the information you provide.” —Marie Fetzer, Student

”This is the most implemented and most often referenced course I've ever bought.” —Katie Matusky, Student

”I don't know how you did it, but you made a math hater do math. At my current rate, I'd have to turn out four projects a week to hit $100K, which is a big HELL NO, NO THANK YOU. But if I can get it up to $2k per sale, which is NOT a stretch, I'm looking at one project a week (with 1 extra / month). That's a big HELL YES I'LL HAVE THAT!” —Christine Demello, Student

”Your content has been beyond outstanding ... for real. Each day I've been astounded by the breadth & depth of mega-high quality content you've packed into each lesson. WOW. Just wow. I simply cannot thank you enough for all the hard work, immense time & effort you put into creating this for us, Ash. In me, you have a super fan for life!” —Tanya McGill, Student

”Had a sales call yesterday that I thought was a total bomb, but I used your strategy to buy me some time. I pitched a 6 month package AND said "it sounds like you might be able to benefit from XYZ as well." Just woke up to find I have a new client who wants BOTH and who will now bring in 50% more every month than what I'd originally planned to sell her one time.” —Lynne Somerman, Student

”You provide solid, concrete advice. It's information that would probably have taken me years of trial and error to distill. I love your copy, so sharp and smart and funny—as entertaining as it is informative. You clearly are accessing the joy and creativity in what you do. It's inspiring!” —Heather Vaughan, Student

”I've been on Upwork trying to land some freelance work here and there when I need cash. I've been trying to play the "nice potential freelancer," but after last night's lesson, I just thought, ‘You know what? Screw this. I'm going to say what I really want to say.’ And, wouldn't you know it? This morning, I had two people who'd sent me messages wanting to hire me. So, yeah. It works.” —Brittany Williams, Student

”I had a meeting with a brand new potential client, and I was SO confident going into the meeting because I felt like I finally had permission to charge what I need to charge. (My proposal was BANGIN', thanks to all the awesome sample templates!) The client ended up choosing the most expensive package option at $3,000/month (!), which includes working on a retainer basis for all of next year, for a grand total of $36,000 in guaranteed revenue from just one client. If I had used my original pricing structure, he would have been a one-and-done at a mere $500.” —Asia Fisher, Student

“Wow—this literally worked! That one tweak made me over $300 in the past two days! Thank you so much for your words of wisdom when it comes to dealing with clients and prospective clients. I'm so glad I invested in your courses. They've taken a whole heckuva lot of stress off of me so I can focus on my zone of genius—health writing—so much more now that I don't have to worry so much about how to say what I want to say in a way that will be well-received. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” —Leesa Klich, Student

”It’s helping to totally transform my sales call approach, an area that I have struggled in for years. I can’t get enough of your simple, yet powerful solutions to some of my biggest obstacles when I’m on the phone. ”Thanks a million for your sales calls training. I've listened to it two times, and I don't really know what's happening, but it's unlocked the confidence I needed to overcome my own fear of selling. I know I can do this!” —Sophia Ozog, Student

”My sister and I are still fangirling across two states. The two of us worked hard, dug deep and are blown away by Ash's guidance. Seriously, we're crying to realize we are on the right track for starting our business. THANK YOU, Ashley Ambirge!!! We love you so hard! Thank you for supporting us, for pushing us, challenging our brains, fueling our idea bank and showing us the way to be unfuckwithable!” —Sheila Streetman, Student

 FAQs

  • Your message is one cohesive BIG IDEA that you use to package your work & differentiate yourself in the marketplace. It’s that BIG IDEA you want to be known for, which elevates you from hundreds or thousands of competitors doing the same work. For example, while Brene Brown is a psychologist, she’s known for The Power of Vulnerability. That’s her main message—and it’s what she’s built her empire on. Everything from her copy to her talks to her products is built around this idea. That’s what gives her such a massive reputation. Jen Sincero’s YOU ARE A BADASS is a similar concept: the book inside is really just a self-help book that could have been packaged any which way. But it was the packaging of the concept of “BADASS” that made the book a massive bestseller. That’s the message: the backbone of your business. You then use that to build everything, from your copy to your offers to your talks and beyond. It’s sort of like a theme, if you will, that’s worded in such a way that makes people instantly “get” it, love it, want it. Without a solid, compelling message, you run the risk of disappearing into the crowd and being invisible, particularly in an online landscape that depends on your ability to stand out from the noise.

  • You bet! This program is like two programs in one: first, we work to find your message, then we figure out how to put it into words that’ll instantly resonate, and then we take that theme and use it to flesh out all-new copy for your website. Inside, we cover your homepage, homepage headlines, homepage crossheads, your opt-in and newsletter, your sales pages, your product descriptions, your contact page & footer, and—drum roll—THREE versions of your professional bio: long, short and micro for use on a variety of contexts, i.e. your About Page, your social media, your Linked In, when someone asks you to send over your bio for a podcast, etc. 🌟 In fact, there’s over 4 hours of training on this alone!

  • YUP. You’ll get instant access to the entire bootcamp upon purchase. You can go through it at your leisure, on-demand style.

  • Video screencast! You’ll walk with me “over my shoulder” through all sorts of writing exercises, explanations, transformations, and examples. Then, I’ll prompt you to try it out for yourself! It’s like being there next to me at the computer.

  • Due to the non-refundable nature of digital products, we do not offer refunds for our on-demand workshops. If you’re on the fence, make sure you’re subscribed to the free Meat & Hair creative writing newsletter, where you can get to know my teaching style and make an educated decision from there!
